More Than A Legend........

"You stupid son, I shoot my gun, from the heart fool you know thats were this music from" (c) Guru on Zonin'

The Hip-Hop world took a major hit last week when we lost half of the legendary group Gangstarr "Guru" born Keith Elam July 17, 1961.

Even though its been a while since we heard anything new from DJ Premier and Guru as Gangstarr you cant take away from the fact that these two cats made classic music together. And I know for me personally the group Gangstarr had a major influence on my production and just my musical taste in general, so I took the news kind of hard.

I never had the chance to meet either one of them in person but have had the pleasure of seeing both of them perform and those are probably some of the most memorable shows/moments in my life. Its very sad to know that we will never get another "Gangstarr" album......

I don't know what if anything "Holar" has musically to release from Guru but the fact of the matter is that nobody gave a shit about Solar when Guru was alive and nobody is going to give a shit about him now that he doesn't have Guru's shirt tails to hang onto. His production is weak to say the least and with all this talk about how he "edited" Guru's final words and how Guru's own father had to get the police involved to get his own son's body so that he can give his child a proper burial makes me hate that clown even more. Enough about him though.....

I am not going to put Guru's whole discography here...I am not going to tell his whole life story either. You can find that on wikipedia. I just wanted people to know what he meant to Hip-Hop and that his accomplishments have gave a lot of us up and comer's hope. Aside from the knowledge the God kicked you knew when Guru was on the track from his distinctive voice....It couldn't be matched and never will be able to be matched.

Guru wasn't just a Boston name or a East Coast name..He was a worldwide name. Gangstarr is a worldwide name. It pisses me off to see the Gangstarr logo on that faggot Solar's twitter page. There is nothing about that clown that's says Gangstarr..Ask Premier, Big Shug, Krumbsnatcha, Freddie Foxx (Bumpy Knuckles) or even M.O.P. if they see that clown as a member of the Gangstarr Foundation and I can almost guarantee that they will look at you like you need to be slapped multiple times....

I cant name one album from Gangstarr that I don't like. Not one and I have them all. The group has songs for every situation if you ask me...Broke? Put on some Gangstarr.....Lady issues? Put on some Gangstarr! If you aren't familiar with them and you call yourself a Hip-Hop head then you probably need to take a step back and do your research..And I know that's a hard thing for a lot of you so called "Hip-Hop" heads to do these days. You sit and wait around for the FM waves to feed you what they call Hip-Hop. You gotta know where this started and Gangstarr has made a huge contribution to Hip-Hop.

You probably wonder why I keep mentioning "Gangstarr" and not just Guru right? Maybe your not! But the reason I mention the group is because thats how I was introduced to DJ Premier and Guru, as Gangstarr! Classic tracks like DWYCK, Zonin, Ex Girl to Next Girl, You Know My Steez, Above The Clouds and many more were all "Gangstarr" records. Without DJ Premier or Guru there wouldn't be Gangstarr. I know I know it started before Premier even came along but Guru and Premier brought Gangstarr to the world.

The fact of the matter is that Guru touched a lot of people thru his words and will continue to do so. He is one of the emcee's that has made "classic" music! Music that can be listened to 20 years from now and still be respected. You don't find that a lot in music these days...Everyone is making music for the time. Guru made music for life...For all of life's spoils, ills, ups and downs.

Rest in Power to the man who called himself Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal). Much love to his family and just because the man in the flesh isn't here doesn't mean that we cant help his name live on and his voice reign supreme......
